Knowing pupils well
Every pupil matters.
Knowing pupils well is at the heart of our pastoral approach. We want every pupil to feel safe, supported and able to make progress, with trusted adults around them who know them and understand when they may need additional support.
Form Tutors
The Form Tutor is a pupil's first point of contact and support in school.
Pupils see their Form Tutor every day, and tutors stay with their form throughout Years 7 to 11. This gives them the opportunity to build strong, supportive relationships and get to know the pupils in their care well.
Heads of Year
Form Tutors are led by Heads of Year, who oversee the wellbeing and progress of pupils in their year group.
Heads of Year stay with their year group as pupils move through the school, building positive relationships and working closely with pupils and their families.
Pastoral Support Mentors
Heads of Year are supported by non-teaching Pastoral Support Mentors, who are available throughout the school day to provide support and intervention.
They work with pupils to help them overcome barriers to learning, liaise with families and, where appropriate, work alongside external agencies to coordinate additional support.
Working with families
We know that working together with families is an important part of supporting pupils well.
Our pastoral teams are here to listen, respond to concerns and help families understand the support available.
We want every pupil to have people around them who know them, support them and help them keep moving forward.
